​​​​​​Middlesbrough Children Matter has a permanent job vacancy for a Residential Support Worker to work within a Children's Home based in Middlesbrough offering a pay of £21,269 - £22,129 pro rata (Sleep in rate £81.00, enhanced rate for Sunday and for night shifts). This role is part-time 18 hours per week.

MiddlesbroughCouncil are seeking to appoint a residential support worker within a residential home for children and young people aged between 8 years and 18 years old. On a day-to-day basis the applicant will par-take in sleep in shifts, supporting the young people and staff team of the home and will directly liaise with the manager of the home. The successful candidate will have background knowledge and experience of working with looked after children, vulnerable adults, or young people.

They should have experience in supervising young people, completing risk assessments and support plans and will be committed to providing a high quality of care and support, which meets the physical, emotional, intellectual, behavioral, health, social and cultural needs of the young people. This will include working with young people who are at risk, have challenging behaviour, emotional problems, mental health disorders and other needs. The successful candidate will be based initially in a named home but may be expected to work across all residential services for Middlesbrough Council, or to work with children in the community, or within their own family homes.

Requirements of the Post include:

  • NVQ/Diploma Level 3 Residential Childcare qualification or a willingness to work towards.

  • Experience of working with children and young people.

  • An understanding of child development and challenging behaviour.

  • A positive attitude and restorative approach when working with children and young people.

  • Be enthusiastic and motivated to support young people and families.

  • Experience of supervising staff.

  • You will also be required to work unsocial hours, including weekends, bank holiday and nights.
